1. If the weather is cold gently warm the cable by playing a gas torch near (not on) the cable before bending it.
2. Set the cable to its jointing position.
3. Clean the PVC sheath at the joint position.
4. Mark the position of the sheath cut(s).
5. For joints mark the shell entry positions and thoroughly abrade the sheath for a minimum distance of 40mm between the sheath cut position(s) and the shell entry position.
6. Wrap a piece of strong string round the cable at the sheath cut position.
7. Pull the string tightly against the cable and work the string backwards and forwards around the cable until the sheath is cut through.
8. Repeat 6 and 7 at the other sheath cut position.
