ACSR: 335 MCM (Approximately 167 mm²) ß Total diameter (Aluminum jacket and steel core).

The tool can handle cutting a 25 mm² thick steel core, so a steel core thickness of 20mm² would be within this tool’s cutting capacity.

Copper: 350 MCM (Approximately 185 mm²)

Steel Wire: We do not recommend using this tool for cutting steel wire unless it is smaller than 25mm², the reason is because of our cutting blade design is specifically for ACSR or softer material. About 75% of the cutting length our cutter blade is thin and sharp. This allows for clean and easy slicing of soft materials such as aluminum jackets of the ACSR wire or copper material. The last 25% of the cutting length of our blade which is located closer to the pivot point of the cutter is a thicker, duller, and extra hardened steel section. This 25% section of the blade is responsible for pinch cutting or crushing the harder material such as the hard steel core of ACSR wire. If your customer attempted to cut steel wire that is beyond the capacity of the tool, then the thin and sharp part of the ACSR cutter blades will experience “gouging” or “dent” marks along the blade, because the thinner/sharp part of the blade isn’t designed for cutting steel material.
